This project aims to prevent the appearance and death of skin cancer.
Melanoma, or skin cancer, is a malignant tumor that develops from melanocytes (pigment cells that produce melanin). The tumor is mainly localized in the skin, much less in the retina, on the mucous membranes.
Melanoma spreads through lymph and blood to almost all organs. Melanoma metastases usually appear within the first year after the onset of the disease. Metastases first spread to the lymph nodes, later – in the lungs, liver, bones, brain.
According to the WHO, approximately 48,000 melanoma-related deaths are reported worldwide each year.
At untimely diagnosis, 95% of patients with melanoma die. Currently, melanoma occurs even in children. Therefore, to prevent melanoma, it is necessary to periodically be examined. If there are signs of “bad” changes, such a nevus should be removed as soon as possible.
To prevent melanoma, screening is one of the forms of early detection of malignant tumors during the preventive examination.
Using the information from the guide, you will be aware of how melanoma can occur, and consult a doctor in time to prevent the disease.
